Course Procedure of the Tandem-Program

After a successful application, the Tandem-Program begins with the opening evening. This is where the tandems and the other participants meet for the first time and get to know each other. During the opening evening, if they agree, a tandem picture is taken in a picture frame. This is the beginning of a collection of moments during the Tandem-Program.

Assignment of the tandems

In order to do justice to the different interests of the participants, the tandems are generally divided into three groups according to certain characteristics. Depending on the progress of their studies, different priorities can then be set individually:

1st group: German students in their 1st or 2nd semester + international students at the beginning of their studies

Focus: cultural exchange, joint meetings, solving cases as a team

2nd group: German students in their 3rd or 4th semester + ERASMUS students

Focus: cultural and professional exchange, language training, preparation for a stay abroad

3rd group: German students from the 5th semester + LL.M. students

Focus: cultural and professional exchange, language training, preparation for a stay abroad

After the matching process

After the matching and the first impression of the tandems, the participants can end the first evening comfortably with snacks and drinks and already exchange their contact information.

The tandems are free to get to know each other better in their first independent activities as a tandem and to help the international students with their start at Heidelberg University and the Faculty of Law. But also to share their Erasmus experiences with each other.

The organizational team of the Tandem-Program organizes further events as part of a diverse semester program. These can be attended together as a tandem, but also offer the opportunity to get to know the other participants in the Tandem-Program. Over the course of the semester, the joint events and the individual activities of the tandems create a sense of community and diversity.

The Tandem-Program also gives German students the opportunity to make initial contacts in the host country for their own semester abroad, so that a reunion of the tandems in the host country after the end of the Tandem-Program cannot be ruled out.
